Hiking in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) is perfect. The trails are wonderful and the view is something you’ll never forget. There are more than 20 miles of trails specifically designed for hikers.
Imagine walking along the trail and suddenly coming upon a stretch of crystal water. The view is breathtaking! You can find trails that lead you to the top of a hill where you can see the water from above. And others where you’ll see the water from ground level. All of this and more is available when you hike in the BVI.
Here are five trails to get you started!
1. Bordeaux Mountain Trail
This trail starts at the beach and ends at Bordeaux Mountain Road. It offers a variety of terrain along the way, but is rather steep in spots making it strenuous going uphill and slippery down. But if you pace yourself and watch your footing, you’ll see sites you’ll never see anywhere else.
2. Drunk Bay Trail
Drunk Bay Trail is unique because of its rocky terrain where you’ll discover rock creations visitors have designed and left for your enjoyment. At only .3 of a mile, this is a more navigable trail than some, though the rocks can make it slightly challenging.
3. Lameshur Bay Trail
Lameshur Bay Trail offers open, dry forest hiking that is relatively even and wide so it’s great for beginners. View lavish greenery, unusual cacti, and an occasional deer along the way, as well as the water from a couple of spots.
4. Rams Head Trail
This one mile trail is rocky and leads to a unique blue cobble beach. Continue up the hillside about 200 feet where you can view the Caribbean. But watch your footing near the cliff edge so you don’t get too close a look!
5. Reef Bay Trail
Reef Bay Trail is the longest of the trails mentioned here. This moderate hike is an educational one with guided tours available to explain the structures and sites along the way. Taino Indian petroglyphs and Danish plantation ruins are only two of the charms that make Caribbean history come alive on your hike.
These trails and many more offer a fun-filled, relaxing vacation. Give them a try when you visit the British Virgin Islands.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) are a tropical paradise full of beauty and views that are unsurpassed by any in the world. But some of these views don’t lie above you, or even around you. In fact, some of the best sights you can see on a BVI sailing vacation are beneath you! These are the fascinating shipwrecks that lie in these beautiful waters.
During your BVI sailing vacation, ask Captain Terry to take you to the RMS Rone. The Rone is not only a historical and magnificent ship, it is also the setting of many different movies, such as The Deep.
Because it has been underwater since 1867, its body is now the home of an entire ecosystem with tropical fish darting around, along with barnacles, coral, and sponges decorating the awesome frame. The hatch is located in about eighty feet of water, making it a perfect adventure for deep sea divers who want an even closer look at the ship’s interiors. Even swimmers who don’t want to go down too far can check out the propeller, which lies in about twenty feet of water.
After that, ask Captain Terry to whisk you twelve miles off the shore of Virgin Gorda, where the shipwreck of the Chikuzen found its way to the bottom of the ocean floor. These waters are home to aquatic life such as sting rays, eagle rays, snappers, barracudas and nurse sharks. Due to the choppy waters and the sometimes dangerous wildlife in the water, its best to only take a dive to the Chikuzen with a qualified and experienced diver.
Next drop anchor at the harbor located in Anegada Island and take a deep sea diving adventure to explore many shipwrecks such as the Rocus and the Paramatta, which are in the waters just a short distance away. These wrecks date back to 1929 and 1859, respectively, and are just two of many of the ships-turned-ecosystems that you’ll find in your diving adventure.
Just be sure to ask Captain Terry to pack the charter boat with lots of scuba gear before you go–these wrecks require more than snorkeling gear.

If eating on board isn’t your plan, the various islands in the BVI offer plenty of restaurants to enjoy local cuisine.
If your travel arrangements allow, St. Thomas is a wonderful place to spend some time sight seeing and shopping. Once in St. Thomas, you’ll take the ferry to Tortola. If you prefer to travel to San Juan, ‘puddle jumper’ airplanes are available to transport you to Tortola.
The British Virgin Islands are the most popular sailing destination in the Caribbean. Throughout the BVI, there are over 100 snorkeling and diving sites for those who wish to see under the sea. Snorkels and flippers are on board and waiting for your use.
Other activities such as guided walking tours, kayaking, and sailing are all included with your chartered sailing yacht vacation. The only things you need to bring are your clothes, shoes, a camera and plenty of sunscreen.
If you enjoy clubbing, there are several bars and grills on the islands where you can take in island nightlife. Or if you prefer to lounge around and enjoy relaxing with a book, that can be arranged as well. Whatever you prefer is what your sailing vacation will include. Just let Captain Terry know … your wish is his command!
